Limitations & Quirks

  • Uses MDC (Markdown Components) format with YAML frontmatter including description, globs, and alwaysApply
  • Supports modern, multifile, legacy, agents-md, and full output modes
  • Commands go to .cursor/commands/*.md for slash command support
  • @shortcuts with multi-line content become command files
  • The .cursorrules file (legacy mode) is deprecated; .cursor/rules/*.mdc is preferred
  • full mode adds commands, .agents/skills/<name>/SKILL.md, and .cursor/agents/<name>.md
  • Supports @file and @folder context references in rules
  • Nested directory rules are supported
